Danziger Platz represents an intersection between Ostend, Ostpark and Hanauer Landstrasse. The relocation of the European Central Bank will change the site structurally. The response to this must be to upgrade the infrastructure and give the site an appropriate urban design. At present Danziger Platz, which is dominated by traffic, dissects Frankfurt’s green belt. This must be rectified, the green belt adjoined and the residential quality improved. With a single building the design combines the landscape of the railway line with the urban nature of the plaza. The cubature of the building is punctuated by gates and indentations. This creates a hybrid space, which creates order and links. As the existing buildings cannot define the east side of the square, additional tracts at right angles will be positioned along Henschelstrasse. The new space corresponds far more to contemporary standards. The design was created in cooperation with the Munich-based studio Rainer Schmidt Landschaftsarchitekten.

For this planning,  Jo. Franzke Architekten gained the second prize in a competition. A first price was not awarded.
