0 Level, Frankfurt Airport

The overall concept for the areas below ground level is based on the premise that visitors move around in spaces and never in corridors. The spaces that have been newly designed and configured are located between strategically important intersection points. The various areas are given different designs, thereby highlighting specific functions, making them easy to recognize and providing a means of orientation. Thanks to the size of the light-surrounded gateways throughout the entire width of the area, there is a hint of something larger. In conjunction with the “frames”, which surround the shop facades in the direction in which one is walking, it becomes possible to point up the objects displayed in the shop windows. This architectural strategy makes the area appear to be high-end, regardless of the nature of the shop tenants, something that is achieved primarily by means of high-grade materials. In conjunction with refined illumination this results in a public space that is flooded with light.
