Jinmen Tower and Concert Hall

Tianjin, China

The circular bridge across the River Hai is suspended from pylontype twin towers.

The urban design competition was for a gate house, a circular pedestrian bridge and a concert hall in the city centre of Tianjin. The 254-metre gate house, used as a hotel and conference centre, marks the end of a green,100 m wide, and traffic axis which runs between two main business and shopping areas.

The circular bridge across the River Hai is suspended from pylontype twin towers and leads to the glass concert hall in the middle of the ‘water square‘ and the adjoining public squares and parks along the embankment. The twintower top is inclined by 15 degrees and is the result of an optimized structural design in dialogue with the gate house and the bridge.
