3/2008: Won competition in Luxemburg

The building site for the new Sal. Oppenheim headquarters occupies a prominent location on the Kirchberg plateau. It is bordered by Avenue J.F. Kennedy and Reimerwee Park. The tender called for the design of the office building to take the form of a cuboid with a covered atrium and the envisaged extension of the park as far as the Avenue to be taken into account. These requirements led to a geometry featuring clear edges and a sort of “hybrid“ atrium. On the ground floor it is designed as a multifunctional area and center for communication that can also be used by the public. From here raised gardens and terraces that can also be used for various purposes branch off. Among other things they serve as a lounge, temporary workspaces, and winter gardens. In the heightened gardens, large windows in the outer wall open, networking with the park while at the same time giving the severe stone façade a more relaxed feel. The top of the atrium takes the form of a “glass sky” that spans the diagonal terrace on the 5th floor. The plans emerged as the winning design in a high-profile international competition, participation in which was by invitation.
